Greece lies at the junction of Europe, Asia and Africa. It has boundaries with Albania, Bulgaria and the Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia to the north, and Turkey to the east. The Aegean Sea lies to the east and south of mainland Greece, while the Ionian Sea lies to the west. Both parts of the Eastern Mediterranean basin feature a vast number of islands. It is heir to the heritages of initial Greece, the Roman and Byzantine Empires, and nearly four centuries of Ottoman rule. Greece is the origin of democracy, Western philosophy, the Olympic sport, Western writing and historiography, political science, major methodical and mathematical doctrines, and Western drama. Counting both disaster and comedy. Greece is a industrial country, a member of the European Union since 1981.

Greece has a mountainous mainland jutting out into the sea at the southern end of the Balkans, the Peloponnesus peninsula, and plentiful islands, including Crete, Euboea, Lesbos, Chios, the Dodecanese and the Cycladic groups of the Aegean Sea and the Ionian Sea islands. Greece has the tenth longest shoreline in the world with 14,880 kilometers.

Four fifths of Greece consists of mountains or hills, making the country one of the most mountainous in Europe. Western Greece has a number of lakes and marshland and it is conquered by the Pindus mountain range. The Pindus mountain range powerfully affects the climate of the country by making the western side of it wetter on average than the areas lying to the east of it. Temperatures hardly ever reach great values although snowfalls do occur rarely even in the Cyclades or the Dodecanese throughout the winter months.

The constitution of Greece recognizes the Greek conformist faith as the "existing" religion of the country, while guaranteeing liberty of spiritual faith for all. The Greek administration does not keep statistics on religious groups and censuses do not ask for spiritual relationship. All through Greece people often enjoy eating from small dishware such as meze with a variety of dips such as tzatziki, grilled octopus and small fish, feta cheese, dolmades a variety of pulses, olives and cheese. Greek cuisine differs broadly from diverse parts of the mainland and from island to island.
